Having trawled through seemingly hundreds of howtos and tutorials, nothing seemed to work properly for me. I’m pretty sure I’ve got a very minimal and easy setup running now so I hope it’s of use to someone else. Click AD Authentication on Linux to see the wiki page
Forget all that. Just install a newer distribution and use sssd. I’ve done this successfully on Scientific Linux 6 and Fedora 13. Follow the instructions here. The only change I made was:
chpass_provider = krb5
I still use the instructions here to set up Kerberos for Apache.
